I wonder how long the "cooling" time is BEFORE the removal of the forms. I would expect that ALL the molten material should be cooled enough to be in a "solid" state BEFORE the removal of the forms. In order to know the answer, the Engineering Procedure needs to be known. Typical previous comment is nothing more than a generalized overview of the process. Nothing detailing this "cooling time" .....just "When the iron has solidifies sufficiently ...". I would NOT be surprised if this joint has NOT cooled long enough. .

Could not the thermite be used to damage tracks instead? The Ukrainians and resistant fighters inside Russia could build a small cart that travels along the tracks, leaving behind thermite charges on the tracks with timers. When the cart reaches the end of its journey it is also destroyed by a thermite charge or explosion. This would leave multiple damaged areas across kilometers of track that all need to be repaired.
